Applications are invited from unmarried Male and unmarried Female Engineering Graduates and also from Widows of Defence Personnel for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Indian Army in all Arms/Services. Course will commence in Oct 2019 at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
(a) Nationality. A candidate must either be :
(i) A citizen of India
(ii) A subject of Bhutan
(iii) A subject of Nepal
(iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India
(v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

Age Limit :-
(i) For SSC(T)-53 Men and SSCW(T) 24 Women. 20 to 27 years as on 01 Oct 2019 (Candidates born between 02 Oct 92 and 01 Oct 99, both days inclusive.
(ii) For widows of Defence Personnel who Died in Harness Only. SSCW (Non Tech) [Non UPSC) and SSCW(Tech) – A maximum of 35 years of age as on 07 Oct 2019.
Note :- The date of birth entered in the Matriculation/Secondary School Examination Certificate or an equivalent examination certificate only is accepted by this office. No other documents relating to age will be accepted and no subsequent request for its change will be considered or granted.
Educational Qualification :- For SSC/Tech/Men and Women). Candidates who have passed the requisite Engineering Degree course or are in the final year of Engineering Degree course are eligible to apply. Candidates studying in the final year of Engineering degree course should be able to submit proof of passing by 01 Oct 2019 and produce the Engineering Degree Certificate within 12 weeks from the date of commencement of training at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Such candidates will be inducted on Additional Bond Basis for recovery of the cost of training at Officers Training Academy (OTA) as notified from time to time as well as stipend and pay & allowances paid.
Important Note :- Candidates must note that for induction to Pre Commission Training Academy, after final selection, the minimum educational qualification is passing BE/B.Tech degree in the Engineering streams notified below at Para 3. To become eligible for induction into SSC (T)-53 (Men) and SSC (T)-24 (Women) course at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, candidates studying in final year of engineering must ensure that he/she submits the proof of passing engineering degree exam by 01 Oct 2019 to Directorate General of Recruiting, failing which his/her candidature will be cancelled.
Educational Qualification for Widows of Defence Personnel who Died in Harness :-
(i) SSCW (Non Tech) (Non UPSC). Graduation in any Discipline.
(ii) SSCW(Tech). BE/B Tech in any Engineering stream.
Important Note :- Candidate studying in final year of Degree must ensure that she submits the proof of passing Degree exam by 01 Oct 2019 to Directorate General of Recruiting, failing which her candidature will be cancelled.
Vacancies :- Candidates must note that only the Engineering streams and their acceptable equivalent streams, strictly as notified in the table below, will be accepted. Candidates with degrees in any other engineering stream(s) are not eligible to apply. Variation between the nomenclature of Engineering stream as given on the degree parchment / marksheet and that submitted by the candidate in his online application will result in cancellation of candidature.

Important Note 2 Widows of Defence Personnel who died in harness, including those with children, will be eligible to apply for SSCW (Tech & Non Tech), provided they have not remarried. Their candidature will be considered only against specific vacancies released for said category, by
competent authority. In case unfilled, the vacancy will revert to the category other than that of widows. The following documents are to be attached with the application:

“These candidates will apply OFF LINE directly to Rtg-A(WE) section, Dte Gen of Rtg, AG’s Branch, Integrated HQ, Ministry of Defence (Army). West Block-III, RK Puram, New Delhi-110066, provided they possess the laid down educational qualification and meet specified selection criteria. The last date for receipt of such off line applications at Dte Gen of Rtg duly completed in all respects is 31 Mar 2019. Applications received after last date/ incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Type of Commission :-
(a) Grant of Commission. Selected candidates will be granted Short Service Commission on probation in the rank of Lt from the date of commencement of the course or the date of reporting at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, whichever is later and will be entitled to full pay and allowances admissible to Lt during training period. Pay & allowances will be paid after successful completion of training.
(b) Confirmation of Short Service Commission. On successful completion of Pre Commission training at OTA, officer will be confirmed Short Service Commission (Technical) in the rank of Lt.
(c) Ante Date Seniority. One year ante date seniority from the date of commission will be granted to Engineering Graduates of Short Service Commission (Technical) in the rank of Lt.
(d) Widows of Defence Personnel selected for SSCW (NT) entry will be granted Short Service Commission in the rank of Lieutenant but will NOT be entitled to any ante date seniority.
(a) Selected candidates will be detailed for training at Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai according to their position in the final order of merit, engineering stream-wise upto the number of vacancies available at the time.
(b) Duration of Training- 49 weeks.
(c) Candidates will neither be allowed to marry during the period of training nor he/she be allowed to live with parents/Guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training at the Officers’ Training Academy. A candidate, if he/she marries while under training, shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him/her by the government. This provision is also applicable to widows of Defence Personnel. A candidate, who marries subsequent to the date of his/her application, though successful at the Service Selection Board interview or medical examination, will not be inducted for training, and his/her candidature will be cancelled.
(d) Training at OTA is at Govt expense. All candidates who successfully complete Pre Commission training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai will be awarded “Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies” by University of Madras.
(e) The final allocation of Arms/Services will be made prior to passing out of Lady/Gentlemen Cadets from OTA and will be at the sole discretion of Integrated HQ Ministry of Defence (Army) keeping in view the existing policy. No representation is tenable on this account.
(1) Suitability to Retain Short Service Commission. If an officer is reported upon within a period of six months from the date of confirmation of Short Service Commission as unsuitable to retain his/her commission, his/her commission may be terminated at any time, whether before or after the above period.
(g) Liability of Service. Officers may be granted Short Service Commission in any Arm/Service and will be liable for service in any part of the world on selected appointments as decided by Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army), from time to time.
(h) Tenure of Engagement. Short Service Commission to Officers (Male and Female) in the regular Army will be granted for 14 years i.e. for an initial period of 10 years extendable by a further period of 04 years. Male officers who are willing to continue to serve in the Army after the expiry of period of ten years in Short Service Commission may, if eligible and suitable in all respects, be considered for the grant of permanent commission in the 10 year of their Short Service Commission in accordance with the relevant rules. Those SSC Officers who are not selected for grant of Permanent Commission but are otherwise considered fit and suitable, will be given option to continue as SSC Officers for a total period of 14 years (including the initial tenure of 10 years) on expiry of which they will be released from the Army. SSC (Tech) Women Officers are not eligible for permanent commission. However, they can opt for extension of up to 14 years of service. 0) Cost of Training. The entire cost of training is at Government expense. In case the Lady/Gentleman Cadet is withdrawn from training academy due to reasons not beyond his/her control, he/she will be liable to refund cost of training @ Rs. 10,247/ -per week (or as notified from time to time) for the period of his/her stay at Training Academy 6. The final allocation of Arms/Services will be made prior to passing out of Lady/Gentleman cadets from OTA, Chennai. The candidate will not have any objection in the event of his/her final selection on allotment of any arms/service in the interest of the organisation
How to Apply :-
(a) Applications will only be accepted online on website “#www.joinindianarmy.nic.in”. Click on ‘Officer Entry Appln/Login’ and then click ‘Registration’. Fill the online registration form after reading the instructions carefully. After getting registered, click on ‘Apply Online under Dashboard. A page ‘Officers Selection – ‘Eligibility’ will open. Then click ‘Apply’ shown against Short Service Commission Technical Course. A page ‘Application Form’ will open. Read the instructions carefully and click ‘Continue to fill details as required under various segments. Personal information, Communication details, Education details and details of previous SSB. ‘Save & Continue’ each time before you go to the next segment. After filling details on the last segment, you will move to a page ‘Summary’ of your information wherein you can check and edit the entries already made. Then click on ‘Submit Now’ only after carefully ascertaining that the correct details have been filled in. Candidates must click ‘Submit Now’ each time they open the application for editing. The candidates are required to take out two copies of their application having Roll Number, 30 minutes after final closure of online application.
CANDIDATES ARE ADVISED TO READ THE NOTIFICATION CAREFULLY AND THEN FILL UP ONLINE APPLICATION FORM TO AVOID MISTAKES, AND THEREBY REJECTION OF APPLICATION.
Important Note 1 :- No changes to details submitted in online application can be made after closure of application. No representation in this regard shall be entertained.
Important Note 2 :- CGPA/Grades must be converted into Marks as per the formulae adopted by the concerned University for filling ‘Marks obtained in Graduation’ in online application. Any discrepancy observed at any stage of selection process will lead to cancellation of candidature.
Following documents are to be carried to the Selection Centre by the candidate :-
One copy of the Print out of application duly signed and affixed with self attested photograph.
(ii) Self attested copy of Matriculation/Secondary School Examination certificate or equivalent certificate issued by the concerned Board of education, in which date of birth is reflected for proof of date of birth (Admit card/Marksheet/Transfer/Leaving Certificate etc are NOT acceptable for proof of date of birth).
(iii) Self attested copy of 12th Class Certificate & Marksheet.
(iv) Self attested copy of Engineering Degree/Provisional Degree issued by the university.
(v) Self attested copy of Mark sheets of all Semesters. (Revised mark sheets issued by a Board/University after submission of online application by the candidate will not be accepted for shortlisting for this course.]
(vi) Certificate issued by the Controller of Examination/Registrar of the concerned University regarding formula for conversion of CGPA/ Grades into marks followed by the University.
(vii) A certificate issued by the controller of Exam/Registrar/Dean of the concerned university or Principal of the college regarding cumulative percentage of marks upto 6 semester for Engg Degree course/ 2 semester for M Sc. Computer science/ 8 semester for Architecture.
(viii) Certificate from the Principal/Head of the Institution stating that the candidate is in final year and his result will be declared by 19 of the month of commencement of course (for final year appearing candidates). (ix) Declaration by the candidate of final year Engineering degree course that he will submit the proof of passing by 1 of the month of commencement of course to Dte Gen of Rtg, failing which his/her candidature will be cancelled.
(c) All certificates as above in original. Originals will be returned after verification at the Services Selection Board itself.
(d) Any candidate who does not carry the above documents for the SSB interview, his/her candidature will be cancelled and he/she will be returned.
(e) The second copy of the printout of online application is to be retained by the candidate for his reference. There is no need to send any hard copy to DG Recruiting.
(1) Candidates must submit only one online application. Receipt of multiple applications from the same candidate will result in cancellation of candidature, and NO representation will be entertained in this regard.
Selection Procedure. The selection procedure is as follows :-
(a) Short listing of Applications. Integrated HQ of MOD(Army) reserves the right to shortlist applications and to fix cutoff percentage of marks for each Engineering discipline/stream (cumulatively obtained upto 6 semester for Engg Degree coursel 2nd semester for MSc. Computer science/ 8th semester for Architecture) without assigning any reason. After shortlisting of applications, the centre allotment will be intimated to the candidate via their email. After allotment of Selection Centre, candidates will have to log in to the website and select their SSB dates which are available on a first come first served basis, upto a specified date as will be intimated on the website
(b) Only shortlisted eligible candidates depending on the cutoff percentage will be interviewed at one of the Selection Centres viz. Allahabad (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka) and Kapurthala (Punjab) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer. Call Up letter for SSB interview will be issued by respective Selection Centres through candidate’s registered e-mail id and SMS only. Allotment of Selection Centre is at the discretion of DG Rtg, IHQ of MOD (Army) and NO request for changes are entertained in this regard.
(c) Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure at the SSB. Those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II. Those who fail in Stage I will be returned on the same day. Duration of SSB interviews is five days, and details of the same are available on official website of Dte Gen of Rtg #www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. This will be followed by a medical examination of the candidates who get recommended after Stage II.
(d) Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, will be issued joining letter for training in the order of merit, depending on the number of vacancies available, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.
Physical Standards :-
(a) Height and Weight. The minimum acceptable height and weight for men is 157.5 cms with correlated weight and for women candidate is 152 cms and 42 kg. In case of candidates belonging to the North East and hilly areas like Gorkhas, Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, the height will be relaxed by 5 cms and weight commensurate with reduced height. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2 cms.
(b) To pass fit, a candidate must be in good physical and mental health free from any disability.

(d) Prospective candidates are advised to exercise and keep themselves physically fit, in order to avoid any injury due to the rigorous physical training at Officers’ Training Academy. In order to be able to adjust to the regime at the Training Academy the candidates are advised to achieve following standards before joining OTA, if finally selected:- (a) Running 2.4km in 15 minutes (b) Push ups – 13 Nos (c) Sit ups – 25 Nos (d) Chin ups – 6 Nos (e) Rope climbing –
Medical Examination :- A candidate recommended by the Services Selection Board will undergo medical examination by a Board of Service Medical officers. In addition Women candidates will undergo Medical Examination by a Lady Medical Officer/lady Specialist to rule out gynaecological disorders. There will be a female attendant present at the time of medical examination in case the Medical Officer /Specialist Officer happens to be male. Only those candidates will be admitted to the academy who are declared medically fit by the Medical Board. The proceedings of the Medical Board are confidential and will not be divulged to anyone. However, candidates declared unfit by the Special Medical Board (SMB) will be intimated by the President of the Special Medical Board. The procedure for request for Appeal Medical Board (AMB) will also be intimated to the candidates. Unfit candidates should report for AMB within a maximum period of 42 days from the date of SMB, if they apply for AMB. President, Appeal Medical Board (AMB) will inform decision of Medical Board regarding ‘Fitness’ of candidates and procedure to appeal against the decision of AMB. Candidates must also note that Review Medical Board (RMB) will be granted at the discretion of DGAFMS based on the merits of the case and that RMB is NOT a right. Candidates will be considered medically fit only on receipt of the approved Medical documents from Directorate General Medical Services. Pregnancy, if detected at any stage, after selection at SSB or during training will debar the female candidate from grant of commission.
